LISBON THE CITY OF THE SEVEN HILLS

Lisbon is a fascinating city, built on 7 hills overlooking the River Tagus offering all the delights you would expect. Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries and quaint museums are all part of the colorful cityscape but the real delights of discovery lie in wandering the narrow lanes of Lisbon lovely back streets. As bright yellow trams wind their way through curvy tree lined streets, the people of Lisbon stroll through the old quarters much as they have done for centuries. It is a centre of tourism and culture with over 20 centuries of history.

The charm of Lisbon emanates from its strong links to the past, reflected in magnificent churches, impressive castles and palaces. Diverse neighborhoods with decorative facades and narrow medieval streets and its people, who by long-standing tradition, offer visitors a warm welcome, distinguish this capital uniquely from other European capitals. A mix of the old and new, Lisbon is overflowing with events, music, museums, and sights that display this diversity. Lisbon is also known as the “White City”, thanks to the special luminosity which emanates from its streets and buildings, transforming it into a sunshine mirror of a thousand colors. In the hilltop district of Bairro Alto, dozens of restaurants and bars line the narrow streets with jazz, reggae, electronica and fado filling the air and revelers partying until dawn. Nightclubs scattered all over the town, making fine use of the old spaces, whether on riverside docks or tucked away in 18th century mansions. Fado (national song) is another expression of what is to be Portuguese that has also been awarded World Heritage Status. You can hear it at night in a Fado house or in a traditional neighborhood.
